So..Obama has asked Congress to vote on whether or not to go to war with Syria shortly after Britain has said they would not strike. What does everyone think? Should America go to war with Syria? Should we keep playing police with the Middle East, or should we as Russia so eloquently put it stop being a monkey playing with a grenade. Please feel free to vote and to explain why you think one way or the other

Sit this one out and either let them fight among themselves or let the UN deal with it, whichever happens first. I don't find it in good taste to imagine people in harm's way no matter what we'd do, best to sit this one out for once.

I'll be honest, Cameron's response was a shock . We expected something to the Libya campaign. But whatevs. Something needs to be done, just to stem the tide of Civilian deaths.

One way or another, something will be done, you can bet 10 dollars in U.S bills on that. Whether the U.S should be the case to carry out, ehh I'd rather not go there, because as noted before let's just sit this one out for now.

I agree something needs to be done, but I don't know if any single country has the right to step over there and lord over them with our "superior military might". The UN is where the rule about Chemical Weapons sits let the UN decide what course of action to take otherwise, in the case of America, it makes us look like even bigger stuck up pricks then we already look like to the world. No matter what we do we'll look like the assholes in someones eyes.

Let a UN 'Sub-group' take care of the matter and hope things get better.

Truth is the UN has no real power and can only really levy sanctions that they don't care about. Like in Libya we need to step in. Not for overwhelming might, but to safeguard the civilians.

That's disturbing and disheartening to hear. I already noted that the U.S must sit this one out, but couldn't the UN just go and send in a covert strike force and see if it helps?

A covert strike force wouldn't do much good I don't think.
May I ask why you think the US should stay out?
Now I realise I'm not American, hence why I won't vote, not my place. But I'm interested in hearing your opinions.

The problem is he's talking full blown Naval strikes on Syria. With Iran and Saudi Arabia already involved on opposite sides of the war the wrong kind of move has the potential to set off WW3

But I'm interested in hearing your opinions. Frankly its not out of cowardice so much as we ought to be focusing on picking our fights wisely and reasonably! If I gotta be more frank, if the U.S doesn't sit this one out at all, its gonna mean a lot of people are gonna get drafted, and seeing as how the drafted cases will not include either the Corrupt Politicians or the WB 'Baptist' Church among their ranks, that is not gonna go well at all. Not in good taste at least.

Drafted, really? I didn't realise America still had a draft policy. Besides your army is big enough ;p

Drafted, really? I didn't realize America still had a draft policy. Besides your army is big enough ;p Well its a last resort, if fighting folks start going low, the drafting options may have to be considered. Hence why I propose we just Sit this one out, and let the UN sort out the rest, preferably by sending out a Strike Force or two. _ OOC: Funny enough, this is a heavy preference to the Fall of 2012, no lie. Not the thread to go in-depth though as let's save it for general discussions.

My main thing is the Middle East being a powder keg and shooting a powder keg is never a good idea. Iran is allied with half the civil war, Saudi Arabia is involved with the other half, whoever we piss off will want to get payback for the bombardment on their side, Israel will jump in due to whoever America pisses off fighting back against America which will start a landslide of Middle Eastern countries getting pissed at Israel making a military strike on anyone...and there's just way too much potential for this to spiral into WW3 for my taste.

The Draft is more of a last ditch thing, I doubt it would be enacted. Thankfully it doesn't apply to College students though (there's an escape clause so to speak on it) so even if it is I don't need to worry.
