Me and my two friends went into the movie with mostly low outlooks and came out with a rather positive view. If it was not already apparent, its basically Groundhog Day with aliens and a D-Day inspired invasion. The bullets and blood are plenty, and the plot, while competent - was the usual summer fare.
Overall; it was very enjoyable, all the actors did a pretty good job, the aliens were actually pretty cool, plot was interesting, some good laughs here and there, etc.
Granted the frame of the story itself was kinda retarded. As a summer movie involving military matters, all the brass in the film are portrayed as a sort of functionally retarded sort and the overall 'operation' of the military shown in the film was just.... bad. Bad, bad, bad BAD. Its like the last two hundred years of military progress and technical advancement was thrown at the window for some half-baked invasion that made as much sense, tactically and strategically, as using a cat as a frisbee.
There are many more glaring issues, but its a movie. Sit down, shut up, and enjoy it. Unlike Godzilla, there are plenty of fights and battles.
