I recall reading that Guiellmo Del Torro wanted to do a Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover

Bad idea, Godzilla would suck if it was an even fight. Or they'd wank/nerf until it worked like they did for king kong vs godzilla, and it sucked

Godzilla has to succeed first before anything else anyway. Would be an interesting way to introduce Mecha-Godzilla

Meh, he has enough opponents in his own lore not to crossover with vastly weaker ones

Just saying, it'd be a way to introduce a major opponent.

Pacific Rim didn't do terribly, despite being a lot of unknowns. The International market really picked up the slack.
Godzilla is already iconic in that vague sort of way that everyone knows him, but at the same time really doesn't. Bryan Cranston's popularity is still glowing hot among some viewerships, and Ken Watanabe and Taylor-Johnson both have some decent star power. Disaster movies usually do good, even when pretty shit. And one other thing going for it is that it's a break from Superheroes. This summer is almost to the point of saturation with Marvel heroes, so some people ought to see it just for something slightly different.
Plus the marketing has done extremely well in my opinion.
I'd love this to be a billion dollar box office monster, but I'm going to hope for 500 mil plus, with a realistic cap of maybe 700 million dollars.

They just have to not repeat the mistake of the previous one
