I kind of feared it. They hinted at Hiccup eventually becoming Chief and his struggle with how to be a leader in the show and the final episodes had him really questioning his ability to be Chief, if he had the stomach for it. - No, but 5 years passed so who knows what happened, apparently the next season if it happens will fill in the blanks and show how Hiccup decided to become The Dragon Master. That and with Hiccup and Astrid an official couple she's basically the only similarly aged woman there who they have a chance with. I mean lets face it would any woman pick them if Hiccup was available lol. - Fun fact he found that dragon as an egg and raised it by torturing and beating it until it was a feral obedient monstrosity. And yeah he was a cool villain. I loved how he just throws his cloak in front of him and no sells fire like it happens all the time.

You know I was thinking...what if the reason there aren't many Night Furies is....they are Alpha's, we see dozens even hundreds of the other species yet we saw 1 Red Death, and the only reason we saw 2 Bewilderbeasts was that was the fulcrum of Drago's plan, kill the other Alpha subsume the nest. That's why Toothless was able to resist the Red Death and break free of the Bewilderbeasts, it even makes sense with the fact he can use Echolocation, he's able to project sounds already maybe it's an extension of that ability. As for why he's smaller than the other Alphas we've seen, Nightfuries are built purely for flight speed and stealth. The way he always seems to be in charge of the group of dragons without argument unless there's dragonnip involved. The dragons at the academy follow him obediently and even stop fighting when he tells them too, again unless some kind of aggression inducing drug is involved. Toothless isn't rare, there's just only one or two Night Furies per nest. When they have offspring they go off to find their own nests. Toothless back in the first movie was too young to actually outdo the Red Death's control or know how too, so he tried to get the respect of the dragons and worked to protect his fellow dragons. He came to see Hiccup as part of his nest which is why he immediately went after Hookfang in the arena. It was his "Alpha's protect their own" mentality coming into play, his destroying the weapons was also part of it. He just hasn't fully mastered the..telepathic aspect of being an Alpha yet as he's still maturing. That and he's like the White Bewilderbeast, he doesn't want to force control, he'd rather his nest respect him than be his slaves so he's never really tried to use it. That's why Toothless challenged the Alpha in his super mode, some instinct unlocked in him that was dormant that said "This bastard's hurting and trying to mind rape your nest, kick his ass and assert your dominance as the alpha dragon"

Exactly, outside of the aggression inducing drugs the only dragons that have really just outright ignored him have been full blown wild dragons with their own packs, a rival whispering death, or the fuck huge oddities, and one dragon that is equally as rare as Toothless the Skrill. And the wild ones fall under the Toothless isn't enough of a dick to mind rape people rule. Outside of the Skrill, all of those big dragons showed a direct ability to control other dragons, the Red Death, Screaming Death, The Bewilderbeasts, all with a screechy and mind based control mechanism, and all of them extremely powerful even compared to Toothless. Toothless is the only other dragon to have shown some kind of sonic ability unless you count the Thunderdrums breath weapon but that's...an attack not an ability. At least if I recall correctly I don't recall other abilities like that from other dragons.

If there is a threequel, I have to imagine the question of other Night Furies will probably be answered. Surely they'll have to address it eventually.

Like I said they already have it slated for 2016, so it's just a matter of what will the plot be. If you ask me the introduction of Alphas, and the concept of other dragon masters wasn't a coincidence we'll see a much bigger world and more alphas and I'm betting that's the secret of Nightfuries, they are alphas

You know what, I'm betting Hiccup will find a massive wild Alpha after being seperated from everyone. He will proceed to tame it and kick ass.

Hah. That'd be an image, especially considering both are around the size of Final Wars and 2014 Godzilla's in length at the least. And with Bewilderbeasts spewing liquid nitrogen everywhere shit be getting real. - Also poor Hiccup got memed.

To be fair it's kind of funny he meets Dagur who couldn't be reasoned with, but at the end of the season he found out that Alvin was Stoiks Snotlout and brought them back together for the most part. So that's likely where that came from, he's like "I changed my dad's mind, and I undid Alvin's Treachery, I'm a peacekeeper, I can talk anyone into anything." Who knows the next two seasons may show that he managed to get through to Dagur as well. Between Stoik Alvin and Dagur...yeah I could see him thinking he could talk down anyone.
