-Artifacts
--Blade of Dorathi:A longsword made of an unknown material, the Blade of Dorathi has a 45 inch blade sharper and stronger than even the finest dwarven crafted blade. The blade itself is serrated at the bottom near the crossguard, the metal of the blade is blacker than obsidian with a gold crossguard and detailing on the hilt. A low, barely audible, hum resonates from the sword, the blade seeming to visibly vibrate as it is used. According to legend, anyone who uses Dorathi's blade will succumb to madness, their minds lost in a sea of insanity. Despite this the Blade of Dorathi is a highly sought treasure for the brave and the foolish.
--Bolomaria:An artifact of the Great Spirit Raggniris given to his chosen desiples. Bolomaria is a pike roughly 27 feet long and approximately 14.6 lb,the shaft made of a dark wood with a golden blade at the end. In its hayday Bolomaria's power was legendary, Raggniris bestowing it only when powerful dark wizards and witches rose to prominence. The wielder could use Bolomaria to dispell any magic they came across almost instantly. Throughout the centuries Bolomaria found its way into numerous hands. One such user met an unfortunate end at the hands of a powerful necromancer. The dark mage stole the weapon and began running experiments on it in an attempt to duplicate it. The experiments corrupted the weapon, distorting its power. After the necromancer's death Bolomaria vanished into myth, in the current age a weapon of similar design and lesser function has been spotted in the hands of various individuals, from adventures and wondering knights to bounty hunters and mercenaries.
-The Races of Men
--Humans--
The most numerous species in Artania, Humans have spread far and wide over the centuries. Though their life spans are far shorter than the long lived Elven peoples, humans have a numerical advantage unmatched by any other species. The Capital's of the three major human provinces traditionally resided around the great towers of Sabros, Torquin, and Arliquan. Today only the great tower of Sabros and its capital city, the seat of the empire, remains untouched by the shadow army. The great tower of Torquin was destroyed in the initial invasion;howerver, the city was rebuilt after the shadow army retreated when their king was wounded in the battle. The land where the great tower of Arliquan once stood likes beyond enemy lines, the ruins of the once great cities are now fortresses under rule of the Night-king.
--Elves--
(since Ru and Mugi are working with elven lore I'll get their input first before filling this out.)
--Dwarfs--
Once a proud and prosperous people who once shared the dark tunnels beneath the land with the Dark Elves, Dwarfs are now a rare sight. The Dwarven kingdom's were the first to fall in the initial invasion during the Tower Age, Their capitals were beneath the great towers of Sarcamech, Orssimasa, and Ressmar. The modern Dwarven people have either integrated into human society, plying their natural smiting skills to create highly sought after weapons and armor, or live a nomadic life style wondering the land in search of a safe place to try and recapture their lost glory. Their lands are considered to be the heart of the Shadow Army territory.
--Orcs--
A tough, brutish, mountain dwelling people. The Orcs have always traditionally kept to themselves. The only species to have no towers associated with them, orcs were naturally considered to be savages, their only known allies being the Dark Elves. To this day Orcs are one of the few races who have successfully battled the Shadow Army with minimal casualties, seemingly immune to the corrupting sickness that seemed to be carried by the Shadow Army as well as being highly resistant to the burns left by their blood. The Orcs are masters at fighting in mountain ranges and have, unintentionally, been the only thing keeping the Shadow Army from using the mountain passes to flank the Human and Elven territories.
The Arcane Arts of Artania:
--Magic--
-Origin: Magical energy in Artania is commonly believed to have come from the forgotten god Magnasorias at the dawn of time. In the time before the beginning the old gods united in the void hoping, as the legend goes, to create the their ultimate masterpiece. Magnasorias, Nyder, Neoca, Dracarys, Solaire,& Balendu worked in harmony, weaving a tapestry in the shadows of nothingness. Nyder created the land with the loving care of a master artisan. Her sister Nyder, having witnessed the creation first hand, wept at the sheer beauty of her sister's masterpiece. Her tears of joy filling the large empty valleys creating the lakes, seas, and oceans. Their lover Dracarys looked upon all they had created and saw the beauty; however, he also saw flaw. The forests had begun to overgrow, strangling the life from themselves. Dracarys rained fire down upon the land, scorching it to ash so that the forest may grow anew more beautiful than before. All the while his father ,Solaire, and mother, Balendu, watched in silent approval. The two were so overjoyed that they began to dance across the heavens. Twirling around and around, occasionally embracing for moments at a time before they spun away again through the skys. Magnasorias stood back, watching the others in silent contemplation. Where the others saw perfection, Magnasorias saw how it could be something more. Down to the newly formed landscape he descended, surveying the landscape with a closer eye. Magnasorias decided his power was to great to unleash upon the world directly. In his wisdom he built nine towers across the land, each one a conduit for his power. With the towers in place, his energy seeped into the soil, swirled through the oceans, and danced along the air. From the base of the tower sprung life. All manor of beast and men were born as the mystical energies of the old gods combined. Their masterpiece was complete.
-Blood Lines: Once, in ages past, anyone had the capacity to use magic. From the lowest peasant to the highest lord, magic was a common as air or water;however, that all changed when the armies of the Shadow King invaded Artanian shores. Despite the immense power and potential of magic, it had a weakness. The very towers that many believed to be the source of all magic in the world were destroyed one by one. As time passed and the towers fell, magic became less prevalent in the world to the point where it is almost non existent. While some individuals may poses some minor abilities, the strongest magic flows along the bloodlines of those who can trace their ancestors back to the Arch-mages of the Tower Age. Legend has it that members of these bloodlines carry the blessing of Magnasorias himself.
-Power at a price: All magic is tied to the vitality of the person wielding it. The raw power may come from their blood lines, but the mages ability to use said power with any skill requires the mage to be of sound mind and body; howerver, the power comes at a price. As the mage uses spells they are tapping into their very life energy. Every spell cast takes its toll on the Mage's body and spirit. Minor spells, such as a lesser fireball, will seem to have no effect in the short term; however, the mage will tire with prolong use.Moderate spells, such as a greater fire ball, will drain the mage's energies much more quickly, leaving the mage exhausted after a few minutes of use. Advanced spells, such as summoning a storm of fire, take a major toll on the Mage. Only a mage who has had a life time of rigorous training may use Advanced spells in relative safety, leaving them drained and in need of a day or twos rest. Should a mage of insufficient skill or one who has been badly injured attempt an Advanced spell they run the risk of having their life essence completely drained, dieing in the process.
-Modern Practitioners: Today, those who practice magic are rare. In civilized society their are only four notable Families gifted with Arcane power, The disgraced Sylvaires, The cunning Zekeras, The ambitious Morrimonts, and The reclusive Dathranecs. These families traditionally own lands near major cities and aid in military matters against the Shadow Army. Unofficially their are magic users scattered throughout the known world, wondering spellbinders, mystical hermits, and covens of witches. Tales of horror from these hedge mages have colored the common mans view of magic in an extremely negative light causing most to treat mages with at best suspicion, and at worst anger and fear.
-Notable Families-
-Sylvaire: Arch-Mage Cassandra Sylvaire, former friend turned mortal rival of Torias Zekera, was considered a well-respected mage and was so well-mannered, kind and informed that she eventually became a Noble Woman, becoming the founder of the Sylvaire Noble Family which originated in the city of Lebrith During the Age of Rebirth after the Tower Age, later moving further inland to the city of Yormund. With her life nearing a close Cassandra researched and created what is considered a Forbidden Ritual and is known as the Passage of Power. This ritual transfers all magic potential, specifically the Sylvaire's mastering of Ice magic, from user to another, rendering the person handing over their potential, incapable of casting magic ever again. However, the person who receives the potential has the ability to increase their skill in magic and constant use with years of practice. In the centuries that the Sylvaires conducted their forbidden ritual, there was a theory that they would someday reach the maximum potential of magic one person could hold. Due to this ritual being cast in different lifetimes and different periods of those lives, the potential has grown quickly, yet a lot of the families Mages lack complete training. This changed when the 12th head of the family, Donovan Sylvaire welcomed a new child into the Sylvaire family, Seluna Sylvaire, named Luna for short. Before she could even walk she was trained to become the perfect Mage, being read Magic spells as if they were bedtime stories and researching the long line of family heads, especially Cassandra Sylvaire. When Luna unknowingly received the full potential of her father and the heads before her, it nearly broke her mind, changing her appearance ever so slightly. Yet she appeared to learn magic even faster than she did before, delving into the Elvish language to cast her spells with the energy of nature and those around her.
-Zekera: Arch-Mage Torias Zekera was born into his Zekera bloodline, and was considered to be the most powerful mage of family;however, as time passed he grew jealous and resentful of the natural talent his close friend Cassandra Sylvaire possessed and a rivalry formed between the two noble houses. The Zekera possessed a natural ability to pass on their magic potential, specifically the mastery of fire magic, from one head of the family to another exclusively, some of them nearing their ancestors potential while non-family heads fell flat on their faces. Around the time Donovan Sylvaire was passing his power to his daughter Luna, the Zekeras would have family duels for the head of the Family, specifically with the use of strategy, magic, and weapons. This went on for the longest time until the most recent head of the family, Alexander Zekera, went beyond his predecessors, killing his younger sister and incapacitating his younger brother and older sister within seconds of the match beginning. His family was taught the ways of brute force and cunning, unlike the well-mannered Sylvaires who hid behind their secrets. The rival families have been known to clash heads even on the battlefield against the Shadow King, resulting in a few unnecessary casualties in a number of skirmishes. However, the most recent spat was the bribe of several other nobles Alexander committed to claiming the Sylvaire family was in league with taking over the Crown behind the scenes. Within days, the Sylvaire family was stripped temporarily of their Noble titles and the city of Yormund stating that they would not be considered Nobles until the matter was officially dealt with. Since then, the Sylvaire family has gone into hiding, causing an unofficial manhunt for the assumed traitors.
COINS AND COMMERCE:
the economy of Artania is a shell of its former self. With most of the land in constant state of warfare, most major coin flows through the military or military affiliated occupations leaving most other trades in financial dispare.
Money in Artania is commonly referred to as "coin", though officially known as drakes. Each drake is minted at the Great Bank near the golden palace of Sabros. The coins themselves have the visage of Emperor Halishak on one side and the imperial royal seal on the other.
There are three types of denomination, copper, silver, and gold. Copper coins are the least valuable and the most common among peasants. Silver is more valuable than copper but less so than gold. Silver is most often found in low to mid end businesses, gold is the currency of nobles and kings. Though all forms of coin can make their way into anyone's hands, a farmer with a sack of gold is rare. It takes 100 copper coins to equal 1 silver and 100 silver coins to equal 1 gold.
-Months & Days:
A typical year in Artania is made up of nine months. The months are Jestra, Fedris, Mytris, Acrisa,
Mofria, Jollis, Jkit, Acris, Savil, Oktlar, Nostriv, and Deprimus.
Weeks consist of seven days, most are plays on the names of the gods. Melifray, Toray, Goriay, Dellisay, Felinay, Heliay, and Sorray.
NOTABLE PEOPLE:
---Current Age--
--Heroes--
-Prince Jonathan Garrett:The only male child of King Regulus Garrett VI, Jonathan grew up trained in the traditional ways of nobility. The finest tutors in both military and courtly matters were tasked with molding the young man into the next king of Lebrith.Johnathan excelled at his more militaristic training, becoming the youngest winner of Lebrith's grand tourney when he entered under a false name, proving his physical prowess. Later in life he proved his tactical abilities when a renegade lord had raised banners against his father's crown. During the battle his father's Grand Commander was killed, Jonathan took his place on the field and lead their men to victory. Since then he has amassed a reputation as a man willing to do whatever it takes to win be it paying out of his personal coffer for desperately needed supplies or cutting secret deals with infamous pirates to ensure ships flying specific flags never reach safe harbor.
--Villains--
--Misc--
-Larinis "Hawk" Waynn: A known smuggler who had spent most of his days sneaking illegal cargo down Lebrith's great river. Now he spends most of his time smuggling unauthorized, but highly requested, supplies to military units on the front lines. He is a close friend of the Mercenary Galen and one of the few people to know him by name, keeping his ear out in his travels he and Galen meet in the Silverson's Tavern regularly for drinks and to exchange job tips.
-Radinis "Rat" Hynskl:Little is known about Radinis Hynskl, Rat to those who know where to find him. Radinis is one of Galen's contacts within the city of Lebrith. Rat his a network of spies in the cities orphaned children, his "little mice" give him information in exchange for his protection. Legend has it that if you strike a child within Lebrith's walls, the rat will feast upon your corps before morning light, a legend many believe true after finding the corpses of many people, including city guards, who decided to test the legend half eaten in the streets.
-Captain Marie Gorrigan:Rumers and tales swirl around The Pirate Queen of the Chironios sea. Some say she is a the last daughter of a dead noble house. Some say she was born a bastard, the red headed daughter of a servent taken by force by her master, others tell that she is an orphan who honed her skills on the streets. Whatever the truth, all the stories agree that she is a woman to be feared. Her beauty matched by a cunning mind and an indomitable will. A legend among seafaring men, Marie is often depicted wielding twin cutlasses, being the first one to bloody her blade in any engagement be it raiding a fishing village for supplies or boarding a royal ship looking for treasure. Standing a head shorter than the crew of her personal flag ship, The White Wyvern, she commands complete loyalty from them and tolerates no insubordination.
---Age of Myth/Tower Wars--
--Heroes--
-Halishak: Little is known about the Warrior-King whom first united the lands of Artania. Myths and legends tell many different stories. One of a man who soured through the sky on wings of light, who's very sword could rend time and space, single handedly crushing all who apposed him. Others spoke of a humble man who had the power to inspire all those around him, a cunning commander who found victory through planing and strategy. Others still tell of a fool who lucked into power while standing on the shoulders of others. Whatever the case may be, it is commonly agreed that Halishak was the face of the unification, a mans who's bloodline ruled Artania for nearly a century.
-Empress Karliah: Empress Karliah, while not the last of Halishak's blood line, was the most beloved ruler to have graced the golden throne. Under her rule the land found a peace it hadn't had in many an age; however, that peace was shattered when the Shadow Army anchored their black ships off along the shore of the Borrilic ocean in the west. Empress Karliah was quick to answer the call to war. From near and far she gathered heroes of great power and waged a bloody campaign until her death at the hands of the Shadow King himself During the battle of Torquin and the Eighth Tower. It was her last act of defiance that nearly shattered the Shadow Army, wounding the Night-King himself. Though the Shadow army with drew, their forces never left the mainland. To this day their forces wage a never ending war with the armies of men and mer who fought on despite the loss of their beloved Empress who's body was cremated like all the other's of the royal line before her. Her urn resting in a place of honer in the heart of the Golden Keep at the base of the Tower Ninth Tower.
-Prince Kailen: Little is known about Prince Kailen, his deeds and history have been scattered across myth and legend. What scant records remain portray him as a grim and cunning commander who rallied the scattered armies of men for one final push after the death of his father, King Braild. Prince Kailen is credited is as an unsung hero who pushed the armies of darkness back and held them at bay at the places that are still contested to this day.
-King Braild: Credited as Empress Karliah's Staunchest ally. King Braild was Empress's top military commander. After her death, it was he who managed to hold the imperial forces together for a counter attack. King Braild's death came at the battle of Dragon's tooth ridge where he sacrificed his own life to hold a choke point known as the 'gates of fire' until his son, Prince Kailen, arrived with reinforcement to win the day. After his death many of the allied kings scattered with their armies, believing all was lost until Braild's son reunited them for one last campaign.

LOCATIONS of Artania:
-Lebrith
A great city near the border of its territory. The bulk of Lebrith's economy is based heavily on its proximity to the Chironios sea and the great river that flows through the city. Lebrith also bosts one of the strongest navies in the world consisting of nearly two thousand ships in all.
-Maps: World & Local
-- Eastern Artania (Lebrith), the Chironios sea, and the west most portion of YAMATO
Monsters & Madmen:
-Common Animals
-Common Wolf: a native to the wilderness and remote areas of Artania. It is the largest extant member of its family, with males averaging 43–45 kg (95–99 lb) and females 36–38.5 kg (79–85 lb). Its winter fur is long and bushy and predominantly a mottled gray in color, although nearly pure white, red, and brown to black also occur.
-Monsters
Harpies: Hideous in appearance, the overwhelming stench of rot clings these half bird half woman hybrids. The carnivorous creatures which can stand anywhere between 5'9" and 6'7" are rarely seen outside of mountain ranges and cliffsides. Harpies are one of the few monsters who seem to have a sort of semi-sentience about them. Entire flocks living in caves, bringing fresh kills to feed what many believe to be a sort of matriarch deep within their lairs.
Minotaur: A species of beastfolk with the body of a man and the head of a bull. They are commonly perceived as mindless, savage monsters by the average man;however, this isn't fully true. The more adventurous scholars have found that most of these creatures have some form of higher intelligence and have formed primitive tribal societies deep within the densest parts of the great forests. The Bull Minotaurs stand between 7' and 9'4", the females stand between 6'8" and 8'5", and have thick grey or brown skin and large curved horns. Some Minotaurs clothe themselves in a simple loincloth and shawl or wear rough leather or fur armor patches while other still prefer nothing at all. Minotaurs mostly keep to themselves when unprovoked, but are also very territorial and react aggressively towards anyone found crossing their territory. This includes other minotaur tribes leading to near constant tribal wars across the forests.
Dragons: Creatures of myth and legend, dragons have not been seen in Artania since the age of Myth before the great unification. Some of the beasts were the embodiment of raw power and fury who's fire could burn through the thickest stone and toughest steel. Others were said to bring with them the coldest of winters, freezing the lands as they flew across the sky while others still are said to have bathed in the fiercest storms,
reducing entire forests to ash with walls of lightning. No one knows which stories are truth and which are tale, even the eldest of Elves only tell vague stories of these creatures who have seemingly vanished from the face of the world.
-Bandit Clans
--Gorrigan's Raiders:A band of pirates who stalk the waters of the Chironios Sea lead by the pirate queen Captain Marie Gorrigan. Gorrigan's Raiders had started their existence as a small group called The Shadow-Serpents lead by a vial man named Harion Drees, better known as the Serpent of Chironios. The Shadow-Serpents had been a niusence for decades, raiding viliges and merchant ships all along the coast, always one step ahead of Lebrith's Royal Fleet and rival pirate factions; however, one day Harion's severed head appeared in a sack sitting outside Lebrith's palace gates. The Shadow-Serpents were under new leadership, the mysterious Captain Gorrigan. Within a year the other pirate factions of the Chironios sea had either joined Gorrigan's Raiders or were destroyed. The Raiders now control a majority of the sea, hitting any ship not guarded under the heaviest military escort.
-The Shadow Army
--S'Thraith: Twisted, Goblin like, creatures used by the shadow army to attack in overwhelming swarms. The S'Thraith wear no armor and use no weapons , preferring to claw and bight like rabid animals. They tare their enemies apart, feasting on them in the middle of the battle field. Though a terrifying sight in groups, the S'Thraith are the weakest of the Shadow King's forces. A solder with modest training can down many of these creatures before being overwhelmed if he keeps his whits about him.
--Kra'gr: These hulking beasts are the living siege weapons of the Shadow Army. Standing nearly two stories high, these behemoths are only seen in large hoards. The last confirmed sighting was during the battle of the eighth tower where one slaughtered nearly 100 men before being brought down by hundreds of conventional arrows and a well placed trebuchet volley. Powerful enough to rip a man in half with little effort and quicker than one would assume. Most feel that the best strategy when dealing with a Kra'gr is to pepper it from afar until it drops, and to run if you are in melee range. Do not linger where these beasts fall, after death their body releases a poisonous gas. While the gas dissipates quickly, anyone unfortunate enough to breath it dies within minutes.
--Rangi'har: The primary ground unit of the Shadow Armies. These creatures are merciless, twisted abominations who know no pity or remorse. Standing roughly human height, the Rangi'har are clad in a dark, chitin like, armor that is as tough as steel but as light as leather allowing them greater mobility on the battle field. Their weapons are made of a similar dark material to their armor, their sword hilts seemingly attached to their hands at the wrists making it impossible to disarm them with out disARMING them. A typical Rangi'har is relentless and continues to attack even when limbs are hacked off, crawling on their chests if bisected or lunging and biteing if both their arms are removed. Decapitation is guaranteed to keep a Rangi'har from attacking farther. Though fierce berzerkers in battle, the Rangi'har can be outwitted and out maneuvered by highly skilled and intelligent warriors.
Gin'Hestraka: Feared and despised commanders of the Shadow Army. Unlike the Rangi'har, the Gin'Hestraka are highly intelligent and capable of formulating complex strategies on the battle field. The Gin'Hestraka are fearsome in combat, not only do they possess greater physical streangth to the Rangi'har, they have access to magic. Unlike a normal mage whose power is drawn from within himself, These creatures can suck the residual magic energy from the area. Living beings, plants, and animals all possess a small amount of magical energy that makes up their being, the Gin'Hestraka have the ability to drain this energy and use it to power their spells, killing the creature or plant being drained in the process. This the Gin'Hestraka highly reasistant to magic attacks as a portion of the energy from the attack is absorbed and used to fuel their own power. In order for a Gin'Hastraka to drain something of magic it must first make physical contact. These commanders are considered top priority when spotted on the battle field, ranged physical attacks are recommended in order to avoid chancing getting caught in its draining grasp.
Hastris: Large reptilian like creatures used as mounts for the Shadow Army. Slightly larger than horses used by human cavalry, the Hastris weighs three thousand pounds and is covered in a thick armored hide. Its mouth is filled with dagger like fangs with a large forward facing horn jutting from above its nose. Hastris can run up to 35 mph in a strait line; however, the are not very agile and have trouble turning while at full charge.
Rangi'hast: Rangi'hast are a variant of Rangi'har who's sword arms are replaced with a barbed lance. Rangi'hast are the mounted cavalry soldiers of the shadow army.
TALES AND SONGS:
-Tale of the nameless one-(Liliana Capri)
"Have you heard of the tale of the nameless one?
A man who's life would be wrote in stone?"
"born of naught, he made his due
a simple man with no name
but his actions none would rue
for even a simple man of no name would become more"
"the darkness, it grew
sweeping through lands till it came to evermoore
a Hero stood in triumphant light
to banish away this blight."
"Behind the Hero, there he waited
a simple man with no name
to see that which was fated
the dance of blades to slay the cursed dark"
"But it was not meant to be
The dark, it quickly overthrew he
swallowed and overtaken, hope seemed lost
for failure? an end to all would be the cost"
"He could not stand by and let things end this way
a simple man with no name
he took up the blade, the dark cackling in feigned dismay
'a hero could not stop us, how could you?"
"And while he knew what he faced, the dark surrounding him
'i know i'm no hero' the man said to them
'but I am determined, I will protect those i hold dear'
'for a nameless man has naught to lose'
and with a mighty strike of his sword, the dark was scattered
unknowingly holding the power within himself.
even a simple man with no name could be more"

-The siege of Lebrith-{excerpt}(Liliana Capri)
"What did the Soldier do when the odds were against him?
What did the Soldier do when his knees went weak?
They fought for kin and country, woman and child.
They knew there was no falling now.
What did the Soldier do when they fell to blows?
What did the Soldier do when they could fight no more?
They fought for their brother and sister beside them
They picked up their fellow and forged onward
What did the Soldier do when victory seemed so far?
What did the Soldier do when all hope was lost?
They fought with tooth and claw, for hope and for love
They risked it all to come home to their wives
their children and their lives
Forwards you march, never faltering never stopping!
For Honor, For Glory, and for Lebrith you forge!!
Onwards to Victory you sorry old fools!"
.........
-The Last Copper-(Mercenary Drinking Song)(Galen Farrel)
"Some men fight for honor! Some men fight for fame! Others fight for kingdoms ,country ,house ,and name! But who do they come crawlin to when the jobs to tough?! They come to those who raise a blade once we're paid enough!
Ohhhhh, Raise um up! Tankards high! For tomorrow we may die! But till then, wear a grin! Downing whisky, rum, and gin! Come on lads drop a card! Toss your last copper to the bard! Bed a wench, it's ok! Tomorrow we'll be getting paid!
Let the knights kneel to the crown! Tonight we burn this tavern down! When the job is done we'll come again! Barkeep another round for the men!
Now we're not heros heaped with praise! Nor do we bow as banners wave!
A band a cutthroats we might be! We're more than friends, we're family!
We'll see our contracts till the end! Then we'll have more gold to spend!
