The other day i was helping a friend with a project and she brought something up that i found interesting. What genre best represents you? For example: I primarily listen to rap. Growing up in the military exposed me to a world of different styles of music but the lyrics, flow and beat of rap enamored me as a child. Old school & Conscious rap got me through some hard times and heavily influenced the way i speak and write poetry. Im curious to see What genre best represents you guys.

Well, I do enjoy having a wide musical pallet. I have songs I like across all genres; however, the two primary ones that I grew up with, the two that were literally played for me in the cradle are Classic rock & Classic country. Now I know country music might not have the highest fallowing around here, but there are songs that really speak to me. For example the song "Time marches on" by Tracy Lawrence came out in 1996 , nearing the end of what I consider to be the classic era, Several parts of the song have had similarities to my life. -The entire opening summarizes my early child hood. [1]Sister cries out, from her baby bed. Brother runs in with feathers on his head. [2]Mama's in her room learning how to sew.[3] Daddy's drinking beer listenen to the radio. [4]Hank Williams sings Kaw-Liga and Dear John. and time marches on, time marches on. 1-I remember doing something similar a time or to. 2-My mom did this frequently 3-Me and my dad would sit for hours listening to the radio 4-Hank is my dads favorite artist, so I heard nearly all his music growing up and have a fondness for it. -From the next part, only the bottom half applies. ....[5]Mama is depressed barely makes a sound. [6]Daddy's got a girl friend in another town. [7]Bob Dylan sings like a rolling stone. 5-Mom went through this recently as a result of dad leaving to live with his.....Girl friend 6-Needs no explanation 7-listened to this song a lot to -The chorus talking about change is true to life, and the last part hasn't happened yet but considering the way this song has nearly predicted the other things then ...... Here is the full song if you care to give it a listen, and I'm sorry I got all personal, I'll try not to do it again.

Can't really pick a genre that really defines me. This does an okay job.

Any music that tells a story. For example, there's a band called Coheed and Cambria. You may have heard of them, you may not have. They have a lovely song called Pearl of the Stars (seriously, it's god damn beautiful. I get realmantears when I listen to it) which is about a character who's been put into an ultimatum. He can help construct something that will pretty much end all life, or he can refuse to and another man will continue to torture his wife. What I like to do with songs like this, though, is try to see how the lyrics could translate into the writer's life, as well as my life. Pearl of the Stars was written during an awful split between the songwriter and his wife. I'm sure that had a large part in the sadness of the lyrics.

(Un)fortunately this music keeps popping back into my head when I'm driving and describes just how badly I want to speed, even with my rather weedy 200 cubic inches.
