So I've gotten about half way through; sorry about taking this long, but I'm getting there. Where to begin? Well, let me ask, do you plan on trying to get this published eventually? I do yea. But keep in mind this was the first draft.

Cool, so will the finished, or rather final version be different in any significant way? By that I mean any major changes to the characters or plot?
From where I've read so far, I think it's very interesting. Transplantation of "fantasy stock" into science fiction is unorthodox, but I see no reason why not, especially considering that there are plenty of cross genre franchises out there.
The setting is good, having a rotten, dystopian air (literally rotten air in your case, lol), and it fits well. You make mention of the Great Empire as the ultimate ruling body, but I like that they have a minimal presence, and even more so that they aren't the stereotypical type you often see. They're almost a mythical presence, and that flows just fine as the kind of perspective that the character would have.
And you do well with the characters so far, and I'm curious to see whence it continues what happens further on.

The main idea of the story is the same, but a lot has changed character wise. When you've finished let me know and I'll link you to my current draft so you can take a look if you want. I'm a little um, stuck atm. So getting feedback on it is always good I always thought "why must elves and orcs and such be limited to just the fantasy setting?" So I've always liked the idea that they could be their own species in a wider universe. In my original writings, the Empire was where the stories took place, but you see a lot of that, so instead I wanted to keep the Empire as this thing in the background that you hear tell of and eventually you (the reader) will learn more and more about them as the story goes along.

A boon of having fantasy things in a sci-fi thing, is that you can look at them with a more scientific viewpoint. You could have almost limitless possibilities describing phlebotium biologies and how such improbable things managed to evolve and how they are able to coexist. World building, in a nutshell, is one of my favorite parts of writing.
Yup, I'd be happy to look and help in any way that I can.

Originally I was planning to have the Orcs the Trolls and the Golbins all evolve on the same planet. IT's rare you ever see a dual species on the same world, let alone 3! The idea behind it was the Orcs drove a lesser race (i.e the Neanderthall esque ones) into the cold mountains of the North, where they, over the centuries would evolve into the Trolls, and others down into caves, and would live underground, who would evolve into goblins, but they'd all share a common ancestor.
I'm not sure atm if I'm going to follow through with that, but it did intrigue me to go about thinking on it. The Garok are pretty much a Tauren-esque race, having evolved form a more Bovine ancenstry. Their world is on the edge of the Eco-Zone and as such is very cold, which is why animals with thick skins and furs thrived there.
I love world building too, more so in Sci-Fo because I get to create entire worlds and cultures and everything xD

I'm usually really good with names ^^ or at least like to think I am. I still seem to struggle with names for MMO chars xD so they all end up as Ruliya xD

I know! It's like... oh come oonnn!! I named like 50 people in mah stories! Why I can't I find a name to fit you, you lovely Half Elf Warrior! >.> Oh well, Ruliya's my known gamertag/moniker, so it usually does in MMO's. And I'm a lil silly and have Rachel on RPG's. Because after half an hour I really am like "fuck it, Rachel/Ruliya it is, I just wanna play!"

Wasn't too bad for my DA characters, kinda just gave them names from my writing. From really similar characters even. Melissa the flirty perky goth mage warden=Melissa the flirty perky goth necro-blaster (who are both mixes of spirit/dead and elemental magic), Mielikki the stoic aloof dalish elf warden that I played once as an archer and once as a dual dagger wielder=Mielikki the dryad hunter who's a bow sniper that uses twin daggers in melee. Though Theresa the composed and wise but slightly bloodknighty human noble warden is really more like Uzza while the other Theresa is "The Harvester" from my sci-fi story and a pretty different person.
