He's not great either, just not as bad as orange mcshouty Well I guess someone like Sasuke is more acceptable to your anti-hope beliefs. Closer to less unacceptable actually, or really more like I don't care about it I'm just realist, hope is BS, having it doesn't help, you can either do something or you can't, hoping you succeed doesn't change anything

Like, hoping you don't die when your trapped behind enemy lines fighting to survive.

When it means you're unsure you can do it while actively trying to sure, but naruto-hope is stupidly idealistic wishful thinking that only works because kishi made the verse that way

Though most examples i have are people who actually did something towards fulfilling that hope.

I know it's there in other works, and I call BS on those verses too
Interestingly, One Piece for such a colorful series with a main theme of nakama is pretty cynical. In the Alabasta Arc (when mr Crocodile was the big bad) Luffy even outright tells Vivi "Get real, it's a war, people die"

Only Naruto has that Hope-y thing & there are times where he acts pretty much without hope. Like with Pain until the very end.

I mean fuck up in the sense stuff like that makes them grow up believing in idealism which makes their stupidity even worse

It makes disillusioned adults when they realize it's BS though, if they had ben cynical kids they'd be fine

Yes, pure cynicism is so much better. Crush them early so that they're crushed forever, right? Can't have silly things like progress.
