I think it's more the fact you want to see no humans at all in it.

They should just be there as plot devices, some exposition and stuff, not major characters, there's no need for human mains, the main character is fucking Godzilla

Well, I've never really seen Godzilla movies. How would you describe them to make me interested in them?

Why would anyone see a Godzilla movie if they don't give a shit about Godzilla ?

Why would anyone see a Godzilla movie if they don't give a shit about Godzilla ? Because they tend to have characters we give an inkling of a damn for. If you want mindless violence, play a video game.

Meh, it'll probably be like Pacific Rim, awesome kaiju fight scenes, pretty much everything else sucks

The originals are...Well, they're interesting. The themes and stories can vary wildly. The first was a grim nuclear allegory, and some others are goofy as shit
But as Rob said, I can't help but respect the work that the suit wearers put into the films, and sometimes the detail of the sets can be impressive in their way. The fights can be cheesy fun, and sometimes serious. It has a lot to offer.
What they never have been are blockbusters. Toho, Daiei, whoever, these Japanese tokusatsu have long been modest projections, wih modest expectations from th fans.
They are a very prominent example of niche entertainment, and Toho has long been content with that, despite Godzilla's cultural presence.
What Legndary is going is closest described as the newest in a long saga of reboots. There's just a blockbuster budget and team this time.
