I'm all about this lack of DT (or whatever New Vegas' system was) -- I'm still using a laser pistol as a sidearm against the non-tanky folks

Fucks up the combat balance and wrecks RP by forcing you to use top tier armor all the time

Fucks up the combat balance and wrecks RP by forcing you to use top tier armor all the time Ah, fair enough. Granted to makes more realistic sense - but they really should have had a system in place to enhance the lighter weapons and armor so they'd still be worth something. Which, considering Skyrim - is already pretty much the case. God knows I just wanted to continue using the 'That Gun'.... but alas. Not enough stuff to make it worth while, so it went into the giant pile of weapons I kept in my home and occasionally stared at.

Also sorta makes fights more cut and dry, where either you or the enemy can barely scratch each other

Granted i use rifles more than handguns.

No, it kills just fine, its just there was never enough perks/skills for it to more effective than my usual Hunting rifle + shotgun combo.
Most of the time it was just me and Boone finding a nice shady spot with our rifles and absolutely wrecking everything but the strongest enemies.
So when Fallout 4 comes out, better be a damn hunting rifle because I've become so used its smooth and effective fire.
