Many people love to read, and some to write their own tales as well. Both are exercises in indulging and expanding our creative tastes. But there are always the dark spots, blemishes on the realm of literature that really grind your gears.
Here is the place to discuss the tropes, cliches, and old standbys that you just can't stand to see in your lit fix. These are the things that make you cringe, groan, and maybe even facepalm in frustration or outright raeg. One Author's tropes can be another reader's torture.
Which are yours?

Stephanie Meyers. 50 Shades of Twilight Fanfic writer.
I've thought about giving up writing seeing stuff like what they write making millions...

Seemingly strong characters who turn out to be weak.
Characters who have a sensible belief for a non-sensical reason.
Also what Ruliya said.

Twilight's Atrocious Sequels? House of Night Hush-Hush 50 Shades of Gray
The dot hack universe got replaced in recognition and recollection by all of these overbloated turkeys!?* What the hell, media!?
I'd be more than happy to prepare to elaborate if need be, let's just say that having Idiotic leadership is one bad stereotype that's been done-to-death like a dead Pegasus, really! Not even the only offense either.
Basically anything that doesn't even have the decency to have a tolerable cast of named residents in their world qualifies as being worth the shit list, I find.
1.) (I for one prefer to save elaboration on why its a major deal for me, for another thread at another time!)

Fair enough, Agent.
I detest not-so-consistent calcs in general out there, I get that not everyone will be able to abide by this even at the hands of the best authors out there, but seriously more effort should be noted in there at least.

I try to have consistent and sensical power displays, which is why my MCs tend to be special hax people.

I try to have consistent and sensical power displays, which is why my MCs tend to be special hax people. Because whenever the calcs are not being consistent when it comes to the MCs, the MCs are most likely reality-warping all over the place?

I try to have consistent and sensical power displays, which is why my MCs tend to be special hax people. Same. I've made it a point to explain stuff in detail xD so there's no mix ups. I've even made sure to explain why in ship to ship combat, weapons don't necessarily do the same damage as when they're used to bombard planets and they like.

If I ever include Fleet Warfare, Then Reality-Warping weaponry or not, send reminders to me for doing that, okay? I wonder if any of us will be able to bring in Tenchi Muyo or Gurren Lagann!-levels of Warfare, I'd like to see for myself which of us could get there first and most smoothly. Getting Individuals who could solo the Power Six by Planet-wide ranges of attacks could also be a bonus for good measure, and maybe see how many people who could individually deadlock The Butcher Side* and basically solo both Star Wars and Dragon Ball Z at the same time can we make, for the sake of $hits and giggles. If Tenchi Muyo and Gurren Lagann can do the latter two in, during 1-vs-2 universe wars with SW and DBZ being the two to either the TM or Gurren Lagann-verse's one, why can't we be allowed to do the same? 1.) (Includes The Dresden Files and Codex Alera)

I mean I do things so that the MC doesn't win just because s/he's the MC.

I mean I do things so that the MC doesn't win just because s/he's the MC. Well that too. I intend to do the same thing, even allow a couple of near-death experiences happen all over the place for good measure.

At the limit I'll pull a Big Damn Hero/ine(s) to save the MC(s) if there's just no way they'd win.

I hate it when MC's are saved by crap Deus Ex Machina stuff. Either they can get out of shit by themselves, or they can't.
I have Main Characters die in my stories, I'm not sure why, but I always have. In almost every story I ever wrote, even from my youngest writing age of about 5, someone has died. I also like the fourth wall breaking of "What do you think this is? Some kind of story book, some movie? People die. It's a fact, I hate it as much as you, but it happens!" I use that quite a bit xD
Then George R Martin comes along and kills off so many chars I'm like... damn... peoples gonna think I just copied him >.> the bastard!
